About the Fund

The “Kathy’s Kids” memorial fund was created by the generous donations of Kathy’s family and friends to provide funding for projects and programs at Monforton School that enhance the educational experience for students and keep Kathy’s memory alive in the school she loved so much.

When Kathy started at Monforton, there were just XX students. Much has changed since then – the school is now home to ~700 students, has three buildings, and is preparing for even more expansion.

The fund focuses on enabling projects that create and expand the school’s outdoor learning spaces and/or showcase and preserve the history and heritage of Monforton.

Projects Under Consideration

Specific projects are under consideration, but the following represent leading ideas.

Monforton History/Heritage Wall

This project would dedicate a wall/area in Monforton for the creation of a visual installation that showcases the 137+ year history of Monforton – from its origins in 1888 as a 1-room schoolhouse to the vibrant multi-building campus it is today. The installation would feature historical photos, key milestones, and key people that built and shaped Monforton to what it is today (including Kathy).

Elementary School Outdoor classroom Spaces

This project would create additional outdoor-learning classroom spaces at our elementary school. In the past couple years we have prototyped these with great success (see photo of our 2nd Grade classroom space). Our students love learning outside and thrive from the tactile and engaging learning opportunities these spaces create.

Monforton has much more un-utilized space to develop additional outdoor-learning classrooms in order to serve more students.

Outdoor Amphitheater/Classroom

This project would develop one of our naturally-sloped open spaces adjacent to the Middle School into a utilizable classroom and presentation space. It could be used for holding class, presenting small public performances, and as an exploration/gathering space during recess.

The photo is an example of such a space from a nearby Montessori school. Ideally our project could include both an amphitheater-style seating area (priority) as well as a stage or platform.

The fund is managed by the Monforton School Foundation, a registered 501(c)3 organization. Tax receipts for your donation are available.
